Haskell Men�s Cross Country Team wins school�s first NAIA conference title

It was a fitting end for Leo Becenti (Navajo), the lone senior harrier, on the Men�s Cross Country team at Haskell Indian Nations University. Going into their conference meet, the tribal college had often come in second or third in the team standings and for Becenti, they had their sights set on this title.

Oklahoma tribes get over $135M in stimulus money

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (AP)

Oklahoma�s tribes have received more than $135 million in federal stimulus dollars, which will go toward housing, infrastructure and conservation projects, officials said.

The Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma�s largest tribe, was awarded the most, at nearly $37.7 million, according to a federal government quarterly report released Oct. 30. Additional stimulus grants have since pushed the total to about $43 million, said Vickie Hanvey, the Cherokee Nation�s self-governance administrator.

Ceremony held for white buffalo at Pennslyvania resort home

Farmington, Pennslyvania (AP)

Native American songs and dances welcomed a sacred white buffalo to his new home at a sanctuary established at a southwestern Pennsylvania resort following the closure of the zoo where he was born.

About 200 people took part in the November ceremony to thank owners of Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington for buying the white buffalo and another black buffalo born at the nearby Woodland Zoo in Farmington, which closed during October.

2 plead guilty to Red Cloud Indian School theft

Rapid City, South Dakota (AP)

Two Pine Ridge women have pleaded guilty to stealing from the Red Cloud Indian School�s Heritage Center on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

January sentencing dates are set for 37-year-old Dana Lonehill and 30-year-old Elmarie Tobacco Thunderhawk. They pleaded guilty to larceny and aiding and abetting.

2 vie to lead Hopi tribe out of political turmoil

Two men vying to become the next chairman on the Hopi reservation say untangling the political mess that has characterized tribal government for years is their top priority.

The legitimacy of the Tribal Council without an elected chairman or vice chairman has been thrown into question since the former leaders resigned last December in an attempt to restore peace to the Hopi people.

Washington�s inland waters now the Salish Sea

Olympia, Washington (AP)

The U.S. Board on Geographic Names has adopted the name Salish Sea for the inland waters that stretch from Olympia north to Canada�s Desolation Sound.

Lou Yost, the board�s executive secretary, said the name was approved during mid-November, meaning Salish Sea can now be added to maps and other materials.

A young boy comes down for breakfast...
Since they live on a farm, his mother asks if he has done his chores.
'Not yet,' said the little boy. His mother tells him no breakfast until he does his chores.
Well, he's a little ticked off so when he feeds the chickens, he kicks a chicken. When he feeds the cows, he kicks a cow, and when he feeds the pigs, he kicks a pig. He goes back in for breakfast and his mother gives him a bowl of dry cereal. 'How come I don't get any eggs and bacon, and why don't I have any milk in my cereal? ' he asks..
'Well,' his mother says, 'I saw you kick a chicken, so you don't get any eggs for a week. I saw you kick the pig, so you don't get any bacon for a week either. I saw you kick the cow so for a week you aren't getting any milk.'
Just then, his father comes down for breakfast and kicks the cat halfway across the kitchen.
The little boy looks up at his mother with a smile, and says ... 'You gonna tell him or should I?
